Dear Campus Community,
No doubt most of you have heard about the tragedy last week at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. A gunman killed nine and wounded nine more before killing himself. The American Association of Community Colleges is asking that Terra State Community College and all community colleges across the nation participate in a National Moment of Silence in honor of the victims of the shooting at Umpqua Community College.
We are planning to configure a human “UCC” in the quad to show our solidarity and support for our friends and colleagues who are working tirelessly to pick up the pieces on the UCC campus. We will send out our support via social media with the hashtag #IamUCC. Please join us tomorrow, October 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the quad. The moment of silence will be at 2 p.m.
We encourage the entire campus community to participate in these efforts. Let’s show Umpqua that we all stand with them as they begin the process of healing their campus community.
Thanks for your support!
Jerome E. Webster, Ph.D.
